Well, I have taken the bull by the horns and started a local branch of the British Polymer Clay Guild.

A BIT ABOUT THE GUILD!

The guild supports British artists and makers and promotes Polymer Clay as an art material. It was founded in September 1997 by Sue Heaser, Alison Gallant and Margaret Reid. The British Polymer Clay Guild is open to anyone who is interested in the modelling medium, from beginners to professionals.

Members include miniaturists, jewellery makers, sculptors, doll makers, and anyone else who works with Polymer Clay. The guild is growing rapidly and it is hoped that the members will guide the way it develops. They love to receive comments, reviews, tutorials and photographs of peoples work.

MORE INFORMATION!

  • This group is just in it's infancy and is run by myself, with some much needed help from Gemma Lock, who is also a Polymer Clay artist based in Sheffield.

  • I have been working with PC for over 30 years and Gemma Lock has been working with it for several years and so between us will advise, help, and inspire you in your creative journey.

  • This event is for those interested in learning more about Polymer Clay, for those of you who are complete beginners, who have thought they'd like to give it a go, but unsure where to start.

  • Each month there will be a different theme for us to inspire us. There will not be any specific tutoring, but help will be on hand. The themes can be interpreted any way you like... for example for the April meet up... All at Sea.. you could make some shell and pebble jewellery, or a 3D wave sculpture, or a miniature bucket and spade pendant... it's entirely up to you!!

  • It is suitable for all abilities and for those over the age of 18. This is not suitable for children, I'm afraid.

  • We have a tools and equipment that you can borrow and also some clay that you can use, so all you need to bring is yourself, some enthusiasm and a baking tray/container in which to take your goodies home with you.

  • Please bring along your Fimo clay or other brands of clay. We do have a little Premo and Sculpey clay that you can use.

  • Once we get established I will be aiming to sell Fimo clay and some tools.

  • There will also be some books and images available to look through if you need any ideas as well as some samples of work by myself and Gemma. There will be an oven available to use to bake small items. There will be an opportunity to 'Show and Tell' your work at every meeting. This is so that we can encourage each other, at whatever stage we are at!

  • The room at the venue is on the ground floor, there are no steps, so those of you with any mobility issues will be fine, so long as you park at the Penistone Road entrance.

  • We have plenty of space at this venue, probably up to 18 places.

  • The cost of the session is only £5.00 which you can pay on the day, or to members of the Guild £4.00. There will be refreshments available.

Thanks! Message sent.

If you want to book a place on the next South Yorkshire Guild meeting or any of the other months, please fill in the form. Many thanks... Gill

We will be some Polymer Clay workshops coming up soon at the same venue. These will probably be either on an evening to start off with. So watch this space!!

MAY THEME: BEADS OF COURAGE

This will be a charitable afternoon where we will all create different beads that will be donated to Sheffield Children's Hospital to help the children with various forms of cancer to cope more with their often gruelling treatment and painful symptoms. The picture of the beads that says Kasabian, was someone I personally knew. He unfortunately died of his cancer last year, aged 9.

Each bead indicated a procedure that he had to endure... there were over 500.
